OLD MIMOSA BAKERY
The Old Mimosa Bakery and Sandwich Shop at 134 Fiddlers Run Blvd. has said farewell to their loyal customers on Wednesday afternoon after permanently closing down.
After nearly two years of selling their delicious baked goods, the bakery closed its doors “due to a number of circumstances” and felt it was best to retire.
The bakery posted to their Facebook page about their closing. “We are grateful for all of you who have supported us in any way! Thank you for everything.”
THE GRIND CAFE
Mimosas and ice cream! What a treat! West Union Street is buzzing over The Grind Cafe’s major changes at 136 W. Union St. in Morganton.
The cafe is now serving mimosas, a classic for brunch lovers.
As a sweet treat, their menu will soon have ice cream, coming to customers towards the middle of next week.
HONEY HOG
The buzz for the renovations at The Honey Hog Restaurant is … silent. The highly anticipated barbecue eatery, at 300 Carbon City Road in Moranton, has been at a standstill since announcing its partnership with R&R Ironworks.
The proposed eatery is the site of the former Hursey's Barbeque.
R&R Ironworks is working on the roof, according to The Honey Hog's Facebook page. Renovation plans include a viewing window into the restaurant's smokehouse and an indoor/outdoor bar, patio, and fire pit.
A collective group of City officials have said they have not heard anything from the upcoming restaurant since they received their zoning permit in January 2023 and, as of press time, attempts to contact the owners were unsuccessful.
UNCLE EEE’S
Keep an eye out for the newly announced breakfast, done Uncle Eee’s way. The widely loved burger joint told customers that breakfast items would be coming soon.
“Soon” is now defined as the beginning of August; however, the exact date and time are still being determined.
What’s on the menu? Breakfast sandwiches, omelets, pumpkin pancakes, and traditional breakfast staples.
We can assure readers that The Paper staff will be some of the first in line since the downtown restaurant is a staple for this news staff. — SB
THE GREEN WAVE
Downtown Glen Alpine will soon be home to a new restaurant at 102 Linville St., formally known as The Green Wave.
Dubbed the Glen Alpine Station, the restaurant will serve breakfast and lunch with dining available on the main floor and will include an upstairs bar.
The owners, a husband-and-wife duo, are in the process of hiring contractors to get the restaurant up to code. The couple says they want to manage expectations to ensure they have everything in order to run a successful restaurant in the Glen Alpine community. — CP
NYNA’S HOUSE
A big sign proclaiming “Opening Soon'' now hangs in the front window of downtown Drexel’s Nyna’s House at 116. S. Main St.
The windows, which had been clear so that passerby could keep an eye on the progress, are now covered with black paper, building the suspense for the upcoming opening.
Chef and operator Rubin Booker says the new restaurant will be open for both lunch and dinner and will specialize in Southern favorites, “with a twist.”
Rumor has it that Paper Editor Emeritus Bill Poteat lives within walking distance of the new eatery and is looking forward to dining there with his lovely and much younger bride. — BP
