North Carolina has a new budget, signed, sealed, and delivered by the General Assembly and Gov. Josh Stein, finally giving teachers across the state, including Burke, their first raise in nearly three years — albeit a year past the state government’s deadline.

The one-time $250,000 endowment expands NCSSM’s reach to students across North Carolina through its online instructional program, NCSSM Connect. NCSSM Chancellor Todd Roberts said the state is expected to match the grant with an additional $250,000 in December.

Local educator Tim Barnsback recented the "Principles of America at 250" educational institute, a fellowship program that invites educators from across the nation to study how the concepts that formed the United States have grown and shifted since the signing of the Declaration of Independence 250 years ago.
