GLOBAL EDUCATORS

Global educators recognized

Heritage Middle School math teacher Anna Lowman (left) and Instructional Coach Christy Arrowood have received Global Educator Digital Badges for completing professional learning focused on bringing global education into their everyday instruction. They’ve explored ways to connect academic standards to issues students can investigate, discuss from different perspectives, and take action on. This work helps students build important skills like critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving while seeing how what they learn in school applies beyond the classroom. A recently approved alignment between Participate Learning and NCDPI means that educators who complete this professional learning can now receive state recognition through the Global Educator Digital Badge. Arrowood also received the Judy Benton Day Outstanding Service Award earlier in October from the NC Science Fair Foundation in recognition of her work with the NWRESA Region 7 Science and Engineering Fair. She is a mentor and advocate for student-led research, manages school-based and county-based science fairs each year, and supports students as they advance their projects to regional and state-level science fairs.
