New teachers get sweet start in Burke County
First-year teachers across Burke County had plenty of support and guidance as they stepped into their new roles on Monday, Aug. 11. Most attended faculty meetings and had time to begin setting up their classrooms, but school leaders also took time to treat new teachers to community-building activities.
Salem Elementary teachers enjoyed breakfast provided by their administration and cooked by Salem Fire & Rescue. After lunch, new teachers and their veteran "buddies" gathered in the school media center for an ice cream social, and a meeting. New teachers were also presented with gifts for their new classrooms, including stuffed tigers, in honor of the school's mascot.Â
