Draughn, Patton, EB tennis players qualify for regionals

The Draughn girls tennis team will send six players to the North Carolina High School Athletic Association 3A West Regional individual tournament, which begins on Friday, Oct. 16, at Belmont Abbey College. Pictured (from left) are regional qualifiers Ryan Watson, Makenzie Powell, Roselyn Siong, Mati Kincaid, Reagan Webb, and Maddy Hudson. Watson won 6-1, 6-0 during Monday’s pre-regional tournament at Draughn to punch her ticket to regionals in the singles bracket, while Siong received an automatic bid in the singles bracket and the duos of Hudson/Kincaid and Webb/Powell received automatic bids in the doubles bracket. Patton will also send six players to the 3A West Regional individual tournament: Mahi Shah (automatic singles bid), London Berry (won 6-1, 6-1 during pre-regionals at Draughn to qualify in singles), Kinley Acord/Coley Berry (automatic doubles bid), and Charlotte Wilson/Madi Norman (won 6-0, 6-0 during pre-regionals at Draughn to qualify in doubles). Additionally, East Burke will send the doubles team of Olivia Garcia/Sarabeth Bradley to the 4A West Regional individual tournament, which starts on Oct. 16 at Bandys High School. Garcia/Bradley won 6-3, 6-1 during a pre-regional tournament on Monday at Brevard College. In addition to the aforementioned individual tournaments, the first two rounds of the dual-team playoffs are scheduled for next week, with the opening round to be held on Oct. 12 and the second round set for Oct. 14.
