The North Carolina High School Athletic Association announced the brackets for the girls volleyball state playoffs on Thursday, with all five Burke County teams receiving postseason bids.
Patton (19-5) earned the No. 8 seed in the 3A West bracket and will have an opening-round bye before hosting either ninth-seeded Draughn (22-10) or 24th-seeded Madison (7-12) — who play today (Saturday, Oct. 17) in Valdese — in the second round on Oct. 20.
NCSSM-Morganton (7-8) is the No. 13 seed in the 1A West bracket, and the Lady Dragons will also host a first-round contest today against 20th-seeded Winston-Salem Prep (9-12). The winner will visit fourth-seeded Revolution Academy (15-6) on Oct. 20.
Freedom (8-15), which earned the No. 20 seed in the 6A West bracket, travels to 13th-seeded Scotland (12-10) today. The winner will visit fourth-seeded Alexander Central (20-10) on Oct. 20.
And East Burke (7-16), which is the No. 22 seed in the 4A West bracket, is at 11th-seeded Brevard (16-12) today. The winner will travel to sixth-seeded Stuart Cramer (19-6) on Oct. 20.
The third round of the playoffs is scheduled for Oct. 22, while the fourth round is set for Oct. 24, regional championship matches will take place on Oct. 27, and state championship contests will be played on Oct. 30 and 31.
