The Industrial Commons has announced a new date for its Hometown Walkabout Community Cohort, originally scheduled for Oct. 10 and canceled due to hurricane-related safety concerns.
The tour will now take place on Saturday, Nov. 21, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and registration has reopened to the public.
Hometown Walkabout is a place- and story-based cultural learning experience that invites participants to explore Burke County through its people, places, and histories.
The guided tour takes participants through downtown Morganton to visit historic sites, public art, and other meaningful community spaces while hearing firsthand stories from local residents.
The experience also includes a home-cooked cultural lunch and opportunities for facilitated conversation and reflection, encouraging participants to build connections and consider how different histories and experiences shape the community they share.
Registration is open on a sliding scale to help make the experience accessible.
Space is limited, and community members are encouraged to register in advance.
Those who were unable to participate on the original date are also welcome to sign up.
Location: The Industrial Commons, 647 Hopewell Road, Morganton (meeting location)
Hometown Walkabout is a program of Common Ground, an enterprise within the Community Engagement Field at The Industrial Commons.
