The NCSSM-Morganton girls tennis team has done it again.
A year after becoming the first-ever Burke County tennis squad — male or female — to win a North Carolina High School Athletic Association dual-team state championship, the Lady Dragons (9-1) made it back-to-back 1A state titles with a 5-0 win over Chatham Charter (13-5) on Oct. 30 at Burlington Tennis Center.
Leah Gibson was named MVP of the match, although she didn’t have to finish her No. 1 singles contest and no doubles contests were played due to NCSSM-Morganton earning enough individual wins to secure the victory. Meanwhile, Elizabeth Lee won at No. 2 singles, Shrika Chatta won at No. 3 singles, Anjana Ramanujam won at No. 4 singles, Anamika Hareesh won at No. 5 singles, and Harshika Chenchu won at No. 6 singles.
Hareesh was chosen as NCSSM-Morganton’s sportsmanship award winner.
