CCC&TI adds health sciences degree

Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute is adding a new associate degree designed to prepare students for a variety of healthcare careers.

The Associate in Applied Science in Health Sciences program is intended to help students enter the workforce after graduation or continue their education in advanced health sciences programs.

The program combines foundational coursework with opportunities to earn stackable credentials, giving students a flexible pathway into the healthcare field.

“The A.A.S. in Health Sciences is designed to cast a wide net for students who are interested in healthcare but aren’t yet sure which path they want to take,” said Kristin Belisle, dean of health sciences programs at CCC&TI. “It’s also a great option for high school students to earn credits through the Career and College Promise (CCP) program, giving them a head start on a college degree at no cost, before they even graduate from high school.”

Students will use current healthcare technologies, train alongside interdisciplinary teams, and develop specialized skills that can prepare them for work in a variety of health care settings. The program also allows students to earn industry-recognized credentials while working toward the degree.

Graduates may pursue careers in healthcare administration or clinical support positions, including nurse aide or phlebotomist. They also may transfer credits toward bachelor’s degree programs or other advanced health sciences degrees.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, healthcare remains one of the nation’s fastest-growing employment sectors. CCC&TI developed the new degree to help meet that demand while giving students more flexibility in choosing a healthcare career.

Belisle said the program also could benefit students who are waiting to enter competitive programs or who have already earned credits toward another health sciences degree.

The program also could be a fit for students who want to explore healthcare careers before choosing a specialty, complete general education requirements for advanced health sciences programs, earn stackable credentials while working toward a degree, or prepare for continued education in a variety of health carefields.

Fall semester begins Aug. 17.
