Advance care planning workshop set for Aug. 13

AMOREM and Thrive will offer a free advance care planning workshop Aug. 13 in Lenoir.

The workshop will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Thrive, formerly the Caldwell Senior Center.

Advance care planning helps people make their medical wishes known in case they are unable to speak for themselves. The process includes deciding, discussing, and documenting healthcare wishes through tools such as living wills and healthcare powers of attorney.

Organizers said advance directives can help ensure a person’s healthcare wishes are known and honored while also giving peace of mind to families.

Notaries and witnesses will be available for anyone who wants to complete documents during the workshop.

AMOREM, formerly Burke Hospice and Palliative Care and Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, partners with Thrive to offer the workshop at no cost on the second Thursday of each month.

Space is limited, and registration is required.

GOOD GRIEF MEALS

AMOREM will also host the next monthly Good Grief Meal at three locations in August. The informal time of food and fellowship is open to anyone who is experiencing grief and loss.

The meal is a Dutch treat.

• Aug. 5 at 3 p.m.: Cracker Barrel, 1601 Blowing Rock Blvd., Boone
• Aug. 6 at 3 p.m.: Mi Caretta Mexican Grill, 1146 Hickory Blvd., Lenoir
• Aug. 7 at 3 p.m.: Twin Brothers Pizza, 719 Main St. E, Valdese

The Good Grief Meal is sponsored through Ashewood Griefand Counseling Services, grief support services of AMOREM, and is one of many opportunities offered to help individuals of all ages and families cope with the loss of their loved ones.
