Draughn volleyball sweeps Patton to win WPC tourney title

Members of the Draughn girls volleyball team, which captured its second straight Western Piedmont 3A/4A Conference tournament championship on Wednesday in Valdese, huddle up in a file photo from Aug. 27. The top-seeded Lady Wildcats (22-10) defeated third-seeded Patton (19-5) in straight sets — scores were 25-19, 25-21, and 25-22 — as they nabbed their eighth win in a row and their third victory over the Lady Panthers this fall. No individual statistics were available from Wednesday’s match, which featured two of the three squads that tied for the WPC regular-season title. R-S Central was the other team that finished 12-2 in league play, with the Lady Hilltoppers ultimately earning the No. 2 seed in the WPC tournament after a tiebreaking drawing last weekend.
