The pair of monks

The pair of Buddhists are on a 'Walk for Peace,' much like the mass migration of monks earlier in the year that crossed the nation from Texas to D.C.

Kanshin Ikeda

Kanshin Ikeda, from Japan, led the duo, methodically beating the traditional Japanese drum in his hand, an uchiwa daiko, and chanting as he walked.

Samten Chödrön

Samten Chödrön, from Nova Scotia, Canada, waved and bowed to cars that passed, slowing down to get a look at the monks as they make their way to Washington, D.C.

Parking lot monk

The monks started their journey in Swannanoa and planned to stop off in Hickory Monday evening. They began Monday morning at East Valdese Baptist Church before being interviewed in Connelly Springs around 9 a.m.

bowing

After speaking with the reporter and a passerby that stopped to give the pair a donation, they both bowed deeply, singing a brief chant, and continued on their way.

road

The Buddhists continued east on U.S. 70, singing and bowing to people and religious establishments as they went. They've stayed in homes and churches, wherever will have them at the end of each day.
