Burke, Morganton to receive Helene recovery funds

Burke County and the City of Morganton will receive more than $2.1 million in federal funding for Hurricane Helene recovery, part of a larger $4.9 million package U.S. Rep. Tim Moore announced for North Carolina’s 14th Congressional District.

The funding comes from the Federal Emergency Management Agency and will support debris removal, utility restoration, and infrastructure repairs across the district.

Burke County will receive $1,537,543.93 for debris removal operations following Hurricane Helene.

The project will remove about 19,603 cubic yards of vegetative debris from private property sites across the county through the Private Property Debris Removal Program. The work is intended to reduce safety hazards and support ongoing recovery efforts.

The City of Morganton will receive $605,074.86 for electrical repair or replacement at a pump station damaged by Hurricane Helene.

Other projects funded through the package include more than $2.5 million for Chimney Rock Village for permanent water and sewer line repairs following severe storm damage. The work includes replacing damaged sewer and force mains, installing new manholes and lift stations, upsizing storm drainage, restoring pavement, and erosion control measures.

The Town of Lake Lure will receive $143,419.42 to replace building contents, vehicles, and barges damaged by the storm.

Polk County will receive $108,756.26 to repair or replace roadways, embankments, and culverts.

Moore represents North Carolina’s 14th Congressional District, which includes Cleveland, Gaston, Burke, and Rutherford counties, as well as parts of Mecklenburg and Polk counties.
