More than $4.75 million in federal disaster recovery funds is coming to Burke and Rutherford Counties to support infrastructure repairs following damage from Hurricane Helene, according to Congressman Tim Moore.
The funding, issued through FEMA’s Public Assistance Program, includes $1.44 million to repair NC 105 Old Roadway in Burke County. The storm caused significant base and surface damage to the roadway.
Rutherford County will receive over $2.7 million. That includes $1.52 million to fix washed-out roads at Chimney Rock State Park and $1.21 million to rebuild the historic Old Rock Café, which was destroyed during the storm.
“While Western North Carolina has come a long way in the recovery process, there’s still more work to do,” said Moore. “This funding will help folks rebuild and move forward with confidence.”
All projects are funded at a 90% federal cost share under the Robert T. Stafford Act, following the formal disaster declaration for Hurricane Helene.
Moore represents North Carolina’s 14th Congressional District, which includes Burke, Rutherford, Cleveland, and Gaston counties, as well as parts of Mecklenburg and Polk.
