Burke County middle school soccer, volleyball rosters announced

Several Burke County middle school volleyball, boys soccer, and girls soccer programs this week announced their 2023 rosters following the completion of tryouts.

Each of the local teams opens Foothills Athletic Conference play next week, on Thursday, Sept. 14. In volleyball, defending FAC champion Heritage opens play at East Burke, while Liberty plays at crosstown foe Walter Johnson, and Table Rock visits West McDowell. All matches are expected to begin at 4 p.m. 

Soccer openers feature the same matchups but at opposite sites beginning at 4 p.m. with the girls games, which will be followed by boys games. The Walter Johnson boys and Table Rock girls won last year’s FAC titles.

Regular-season play concludes Oct. 31, with the four-team playoffs in all three sports set for Nov. 1 and 2.

(The Table Rock and Walter Johnson football teams have now also announced their rosters, which were unavailable last week to run alongside the initial three county gridiron rosters to be announced.)

EAST BURKE

Boys soccer

The Raiders’ roster includes players Zlatan Martinez, Zion Perez, Tucker Chapman, Thatcher Gilbert, Ethan Rorie, Jessi Tluang, Angel Rodriguez Hernandez, Brayden Coffey, Isaiah Reid, Freddie Medina, Brandon Hernandez, Diego Reyes Alanis, Daniel Capps, Braydon Killian, Iker Rodriguez Javelera, Brentley Watson, Mason Philyaw, and Grayson Smith. Eric Gramer is the Raiders’ head coach.

Girls soccer 

EBMS’ girls team this season includes Genessis Lopez, Katelyn Rudolph, Hannah Smith, Miracle Xiong, Taylor Parker, Serenity Waycaster, Andrea Avila, Thea Gilbert, Sarabeth Bradley, Alisson Gonzalez Garcia, Annabelle Frank, Cassie Chang, Ava Hill, Calla Bishop, Kaleigha Sitthiphanh, Sophia Menard, and Kiyiha Pyatte. The Raiders are coached by Elicia Carter.

Volleyball 

The Lady Raiders’ 2023 squad includes Isabella Davis, Elaina Curnutte, Emerie Setzer, Isabella Reid, Carly Mace, Brayleigh Carswell, Delanie Davis, Aubry Smith, Gracie Gladden, Ava Bivens, Maggie Mace, Abigail Garcia, Emma Price, Paisley Hart, and Zoey Taylor. Jaelyn Drum and Julianna Parker are the team managers. EBMS’ head coach is Nancy Kelly.

HERITAGE

Boys soccer

The 2023 Eagles roster includes Noah Thomas, Christian Ugalde, Elliot Braswell, Isaac Yang, Grant Blalock, Roark Baker, Sawyer Bollinger, Talen Denton, Gaige Deal, Cooper Abare, Logan Lail, Ryder Denton, Luke Braswell, Mateo Ortiz, Connor Reeves, and Liam Phipps. Doug Webb is the HMS boys and girls soccer head coach.

Girls soccer

Heritage’s girls squad is comprised by Avery Kirkley, Marissa Williams, Saylor Watson, Maddie Radabaugh, Bailey Winkler, Makenzie Powell, Karen DeLeon, Maddy Hudson, Reagan Webb, Emma Johnson, Daynesa Gonzalez, Ryan Watson, Everly Hang, Ivy Xiong, Maya Ugalde, and Emeri Scott.
