TO THE EDITOR:
It is ironic to hear Trump and Republicans claim our elections are corrupt, rigged, when they own the Presidency, House, and Senate. The DEEP STATE must be awful at rigging elections.
It was Trump, who sent an armed mob to assault our Capitol to overturn an election and stop the peaceful transfer of power.
It was Trump who tried to legitimize fraudulent electors from six states to deny the outcome of an election.
It was Trump who pleaded with the Secretary of State of Georgia to just find him over 11,000 votes he did not get so he could win the state election.
We have a President and Republican sycophants trying to create fear and distrust of our elections when it is Trump (and Republicans) who has shown that he will do anything to stay in power.
In the face of global warming, we have people in power who say it is a hoax, who gutted the Endangered Species Act so that now the species habitat is no longer protected.
So, eagles. whooping cranes, whales, manatees, and wolves no longer have a refuge from development and habitat loss. Destroying the habitat of a species somehow does not kill the species.
Ironic that Trump, with Republicans, are destroying the human habitat. They have taken away tax credits for electric cars and all solar and wind projects.
Solar and wind projects are virtually stopped in the United States due to Trump’s policies and executive orders. The move to electric cars has come to a halt.
Trump has shrunk the size of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase National Monuments by 90%, opening sacred lands to native people and old growth forests to logging and development.
Trump has opened hundreds of thousands of acres of marine sanctuaries in the Pacific to commercial fishing. They have eliminated clean air, clean water standards.
They have taken away the EPA’s ability to regulate vehicle emissions. They have defunded the EPA and put it under the control of global warming deniers. They deny that carbon dioxide causes global warming.
Trump’s beautiful budget bill gives $4.5 Trillion in tax cuts to the wealthiest Americans and corporations over 10 years while cutting 1.1 billion from health care and food assistance to working families.
Millions of families will lose health insurance and food assistance — but not until after the November elections. The Republican bill deliberately targets the most vulnerable in our country — especially poor and lower income children.
This bill alone will add about $4.7 trillion to our national debt over the next 10 years.
Cuts to USAID have, by conservative estimates, caused over 500,000 deaths of children so far. (Where are the voices of Evangelical Christians so devoted to LIFE on this?).
In addition, Trump cut funding to PEPFAR, the President’s plan for AIDS relief credited with saving over 2.5 million lives.
We have twice elected a carnival barker as President who leads a once proud people to a feeling of indignity and humiliation. Our threat is not external conquest but internal rot and decay.
