My father was a Republican, and his favorite president was Ronald Reagon. “Tear down this wall, Mr. Gorbachev.” These were President Reagan’s famous and often quoted words.
President Donald J. Trump has totally abandoned this view to support Vladimir Putin in the unprovoked war against Ukraine.
He has authorized the purchase of diesel fuel from Russia. Western nations imposed these sanctions when Russia invaded Ukraine.
The U.S. Congress passed the Lindsay Graham bill to support these sanctions and tariffs, and Senator Graham’s sister, now serving out her brother’s term and running for re-election, opposes Trump’s defiance of these sanctions.
According to Trump, the United States needs this diesel fuel from Russia because the price of diesel and gasoline has skyrocketed. Why? Trump’s war against Iran is the answer.
My father fought in the Pacific in World War II and always voted Republican. I doubt that he would do that today.
