UNC Health Blue Ridge enacts visitor restrictions

UNC Health Blue Ridge has enacted temporary age-based visitor restrictions due to increasing cases of respiratory illnesses.

Effective immediately, these restrictions apply to all UNC Health Blue Ridge inpatient locations. The visitor restriction reduces the risk of transmission to vulnerable individuals within the hospital.

• Visitors aged 11 years old and younger are prohibited from all inpatient areas and all waiting areas.  
• Visitors over 11 years old with respiratory symptoms are prohibited from all inpatient areas and all waiting areas.  
• Masks are required for any patients and visitors experiencing symptoms of a respiratory illness, such as fever, persistent cough, runny nose, congestion, shortness of breath, headache, or muscle soreness.
• All visitors are strongly encouraged to clean their hands frequently and wear masks inpatient care areas. Proper hand hygiene and mask-wearing are the best ways to prevent the transmission of these viruses, particularly to those already in a weakened state and trying to recover.
