Bennick notches 1st pro victory

Morganton native Daxton Bennick, a 20-year-old who is currently in his third year as a professional dirt bike rider, earned his first victory at the pro level by winning the first of two Monster Energy American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) SuperMotocross 250SMX series playoff races on Sept. 12 at Historic Crew Stadium in Columbus, Ohio. Bennick added a third-place finish in the second race of the day to finish second overall behind Levi Kitchen, while Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing teammate Ryder DiFrancesco came in third overall.

Bennick is currently fourth in the 250SMX points standings ahead of the next round of playoff races, which will be held tonight (Saturday, Sept. 19) at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, Calif. The AMA season will then end with the SMX World Championship Final on Sept. 26 at Thunder Ridge Nature Arena in Ridgedale, Mo.

Earlier in 2026, Bennick finished third in the points standings during the AMA Supercross Championship's 250SX East series season (Feb. 21 through May 9) before finishing 16th in the points standings during the AMA Motocross Championship's 250 series season (May 30 through Aug. 29).
