Morganton Electric is monitoring a regional electric grid alert issued by Duke Energy Carolinas caused by high electricity demand.
There are no planned outages at this time. However, customers are asked to help by reducing non-essential electric use today from 2pm-8pm until conditions improve.
Morganton states that you can help by:
• Turning off lights and electronics you are not using
• Waiting to use large appliances like washers, dryers, dishwashers, and ovens
• Adjusting your thermostat up a few degrees, if safe and comfortable
• Reducing non-essential electric use at businesses
Morganton Electric is also using available local resources to help reduce demand on the grid.
If conditions get worse, temporary rotating outages could become necessary, but that has not been directed at this time.
