“We now have a new police chief, Kirk Penley,” said Crystal Reed, town administrator. “... Kirk Penley is doing a really good job to make the police department more up to standards.”
Penley and the town are working to fully staff the department and have found two officers who will hopefully start in the new year.

As a personal achievement, Reed received her certification as a municipal clerk.
In December, the town purchased the property at 201 W. Main St., a prominent piece of land that will be used for a yet-to-be determined community purpose.
Glen Alpine is also partnering more with Burke County. The county, a “one-stop-shop,” is now contracted for its planning and zoning matters. They also are working with the Western Piedmont Council of Government’s Curt Willis for their code enforcement needs as a town.
