Burke residents will soon be out of time to place debris from Hurricane Helene at the roadside.
“We encourage you to work hard to get any remaining debris you have out to the right of way,” said Burke County Manager Brian Epley.

Saturday, March 8, is the last day that crews contracted by Burke County will remove debris free of charge. Call the debris hotline, 828-764-3088, to ensure crews know debris is awaiting pickup at your address. “We’ve been hyper-focused, on the county level, on debris collection,” said Burke County Manager Brian Epley. “We think we are about 90% complete.”
The debris crews have made multiple passes on the county’s roadways, looking for debris.
To date, 247,000 cubic yards of limbs, ruined appliances, construction materials, and more have been removed from rights of way throughout the county.
As a reminder, debris should be separated into three distinct piles:
Vegetation (tree limbs, branches, etc.)
White goods (appliances like refrigerators, washing machines)
Building materials (construction debris, wood, drywall)
