A homeless man was arrested after assaulting and threatening a resident with a kitchen knife and stealing property.Â
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office responded to 4986 Duckworth Circle Morganton, regarding an assault on Wednesday, June 18.
During the investigation, the suspect was identified as 44-year-old Joseph Carl Rhubright.
The victim stated that he allowed Rhubright to enter the home. Inside the residence, Rhubright accused the victim of stealing from him. Rhubright then pushed the victim to the ground, threatened him with a kitchen knife and stole $20 in cash and a tablet. Rhubright had fled the scene.
The victim was evaluated by Burke County EMS, but declined further treatment.
The following charges were issued for Rhubright:
Felony robbery with a dangerous weapon
Misdemanor assault and battery
Rhubright was located and served with the two outstanding warrants and was taken to the Burke County Magistrate's Office. He received a $50,000 secured bond and appeared in court on Monday, June 23. His next court date is on Friday, July 11.Â
