Burke 8U softball punches 1st local ticket to Tar Heel state tourney

The Burke County 8U softball all-stars won the Tar Heel League District 1 tournament title on June 28 at South Caldwell High School, capped by an 11-9 championship game win over host Granite Falls. Team members included Aspen Coffey, Melayah Collett, Miliyah Collett, Adaline Haynes, Rainah Hill, Remi Milligan, Madilyn Palmer, Stella Robinson, Isabella Shore, Hannalyn Smith, Addilyn Sumpter, and Natalie Thao. The team is coached by Shane Coffey, Patrick Hill, Hunter Milligan, and Robert Smith. Burke County advances to the Tar Heel state tournament, which will be played July 17-20 and hosted by Wilkes County.
