George Maurice Hill III

George Maurice Hill III, 40, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2026. Born Sept. 7, 1985, he was the son of Donna B. Hill and the late William A. Hill.

George grew up in Morganton and was a member of First Baptist Church of Morganton throughout his childhood. He attended Freedom High School and later Catawba Valley Community College in Hickory.

George enjoyed making others laugh and had a bright smile, which served him well throughout his many years working in the hospitality industry. He loved all kinds of music and was tremendously creative, much like his father. George was known for his mischievousness and playful nature, which made him a memorable soul.

In his 40 years, George made countless friends from all walks of life and was deeply loved. He will be greatly missed by many.

In addition to his mother, George is survived by his sister, Sara Hill-Chrestman (Matthew); nieces and nephews, Leela, Miles, and Lucy Chrestman; grandmothers, Josephine Hill and Pearlene Norman; uncles, Larry Buff, Gerald Buff, Victor Wheeler, Tom Laundon, and Jody Price; aunts, Jean Pitts, Kathy Wheeler, and Dr. Melinda Hill-Price; as well as numerous beloved cousins.

In addition to his father, George was preceded in death by his grandfathers, George Maurice Hill Jr. and Frank Junior Buff; uncles, Miles Pitts and Robert Hill; and aunt, Dr. Caroline Laundon.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Morganton. A memorial service will be held in the sanctuary at 2 p.m., with Dr. Thomas A. Bland Jr. officiating.
