Town of Valdese
FOR THE PAPERThe Town of Valdese will hold its April council meeting tonight, addressing major topics such as residential zoning, infrastructure improvements, financial management, and the recruitment of a new town manager.
Rezoning Proposal on Dixie Avenue NW: Public hearing for converting a manufacturing-zoned property into a residential area. Plans include two three-story buildings with 48 income-restricted apartments, a clubhouse, playground, picnic area, and sidewalks. Despite minor inconsistencies with the Vision Plan, the Planning Board unanimously supports this residential development.
Infrastructure Projects: Berrytown Waterline: Reviewing progress on this Community Development Block Grant-funded project aimed at enhancing local water services.
Water Treatment Facility Upgrades: Evaluating ongoing improvements, including connections with Lenoir, to ensure sustainable and reliable water supply for Valdese’s growth.
Public Safety Facilities: Updates on proposed renovations and expansions of fire and police department buildings. The council is nearing a decision on contractor selection to boost operational effectiveness.
Financial Management: Discussions on resolutions for selling town-owned properties on Rodoret Street N and Pineburr Avenue SE, and a budget amendment for water plant filter inspections and rehabilitation.
Town Manager Recruitment: Interim Town Manager Bo Weichel will present a financial progress report and updates on town projects, while Mayor Watts will discuss the recruitment status for a new permanent town manager.
The meeting begins at 6 p.m. and is held in the Valdese Town Hall.
