MICA BANKS / THE PAPERValdese lost two more restaurants last week when Major’s Supper and Social announced its immediate closure Wednesday, and owners confirmed that Mountain Burrito is also permanently shut.
The restaurants shared one building on 149 Main St. W in Valdese. Mountain Burrito operated Wednesday to Sunday from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., while Major’s Supper and Social was open Friday to Monday from 5-10 p.m.
Owners Courtney Morse and Steve Yorsz said the restaurant was not financially sustainable in its current form.
“We genuinely believed we had found a path forward and spent the last several months exploring ways to make it work long-term,” Morse and Yorsz said. “After sitting with the numbers and the reality of the location, we’ve concluded that closing is the right decision.”
Morse said they had found people to lease the building alongside, splitting the cost of using the space, but their potential partners had to back out due to an emergency situation.
Major’s Supper and Social featured a diverse menu with Asian flair. The owners called it “Asian comfort food.”
Morse said there will be one more supper event in the near future, but not in the building Major’s Supper and Social operated from. She said there will be an announcement when details are nailed down.
“We’re proud of what we built and deeply grateful to everyone who shared meals, friendships, and memories with us,” Morse and Yorsz said.
Mountain Burrito’s Valdese location has been closed since December, when it closed for a holiday break. It was supposed to reopen on Jan. 7, but the day came and went with no reopening and no announcement.
On Jan. 9, Mountain Burrito announced it would be closed for a few more weeks, but gave no specific timeframe.
The doors never reopened.
Diners in Valdese also lost 100 Main Restaurant & Bar in January, after 11 years in operation. The restaurant closed after negotiations for a lease agreement with the potential new property owner failed.
