Henry M. Ramseur, 95, of Morganton, passed away on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at his home.
He was born on April 24, 1931, in the Lost Corner community of Burke County to the late William F. Ramseur and Esther Simpson Ramseur. Henry attended Oak Hill Elementary, Morganton High School, and graduated from N.C. State College of Agriculture and Engineering with a degree in Animal Science in 1954.
Henry was a veteran of the United States Army and retired from the U.S. Army Reserve as a lieutenant colonel.
He completed Army Command and General Staff College. He worked for the N.C. Department of Agriculture and served as the County Extension Chairman of Alexander County and director of the Agricultural Extension Service in Wilkes County.
Many areas of interest and support included Burke Sunrise Rotary club, North Carolina State Alumni Association, the Morganton chapter of AARP. He was a member of Quaker Meadows Presbyterian Church and was a former member of First Presbyterian Church of Morganton where he served as an elder.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, William S. Ramseur, Walter F. Ramseur and Dr. George S. Ramseur.
He is survived by his wife of 73 years, Penina Bowden Ramseur; daughters, Mary Louise Ramseur, Carolyn Ritchie (Dennis) and Nina Rexrode (Byron); grandchildren, Crystal Webb (Dale), Marie Leonard (Kaden), Julia Warren (Andrew Kilkenny), and Jacob Warren; great-grandchildren, Bennette Webb and Henry L. Webb; sister, Nancy McMurray (Birch).
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon on today, Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Quaker Meadows Presbyterian Church fellowship hall. The funeral will begin at noon in the church with the Rev. Andy Parkey officiating. Burial will follow in the Forney Family Cemetery at 2 p.m. with military honors provided by the N.C. National Guard.
