After falling under financial hardship, Green Street Grille has closed its doors to the South Green Street restaurant.Â
The restaurant announced their closure on Tuesday, Jan. 7, after receiving many questions from the community.Â
"My rent had become more than I could afford on just sandwiches. Some months I was paying over $9000 for rent and utilities," the owner said. "I fell behind all year and especially during the hurricane and received an eviction notice to be out by January 8th.
"I struggled so much financially in 2024 but, I was so determined to try to make it work because I loved my customers and I loved Burke County."Â
The owner said due to their situation, they had to leave their equipment and other items they owned. "Relocating the business is not an option at this time."
The property, which was formally Maria's Italian Eatery, is owned by Virginia Erwin, president of Airlie Properties.Â
