EJ Victor in talks to sell its Morganton factory, intellectual property

EJ Victor hasn’t yet sold any of its property, but CEO Richard Oliver said he is negotiating the sale of the factory and the intellectual property, which includes the company’s name, designs, and work instructions.

Oliver did not share what the factory might sell for but said that those interested in purchasing it range from companies in the furniture industry to companies looking to rent the space out.

“And we’ve had interest from some buyers that are … primarily importers, and they’re interested in repatriating some of their manufacturing just because of what’s going on in the marketplace with tariffs,” Oliver said.

EJ Victor was a local furniture manufacturer that operated for almost 35 years, with a factory in Morganton and a showroom in High Point. Unfortunately, Hurricane Helene severely damaged the factory in 2024, marking the beginning of the end. The business closed permanently in July 2025.

Both the factory and showroom are for sale.

Oliver said that, right now, most people are preparing for the fall High Point Market, so “they’re not looking at the showroom.”

“We expect some traffic during market … and then after market, we expect that we will hear something around the showroom, and interest will start to go up there,” Oliver said.

High Point Market is a large semi-annual event centered on the furniture industry that brings together professionals from all corners of the field.

This year’s fall market will take place from Oct. 25-29.

Oliver said up to two dozen designers and some individual buyers purchased furniture from the showroom. This includes Morganton realtor Jim Belote.

Belote said he purchased some samples and surplus from EJ Victor, and that he intends to market the furniture at a later date.
