Edward Rufus McGimpsey Sr. (1920 -1993) was the son of Henry Coy and Jettie Crisp McGimpsey. As a young man, with his pony cart, he delivered ice, fresh milk, and butter to neighbors. He was the student driver of the first vehicle transporting students to Olive Hill High School. He later operated a wood and coal yard, a sawmill, and a service station at the corner of Meeting and White Streets. He married Hazel Crisp; they had four children — Sina Irene, Edna Mae, Dottie Ann, and Edward Jr. After serving in the Army in World War II, he founded Ebony Funeral Home with Elbert Crisp, Willie Crisp and Oliver Fleming. He was active in civic affairs and in Shiloh AME Church. In later years, he moved to Lenoir.
