Broyhill Family Foundation provides $35K grant to AMOREM

A faulty hot water heater recently resulted in a temporary loss of hot water in a commercial kitchen that serves one of AMOREM’s patient care units, with the local nonprofit hospice provider identifying the Broyhill Family Foundation as a potential grantor to assist with the sudden need.

After the commercial hot water heater stopped working at AMOREM’s Jack and Shirley Robbins Center campus in Hudson, the organization had to purchase meals from outside sources for the patients and their families being served at the Forlines Patient Care Unit at that time.

The Hudson campus is one of four inpatient hospice facilities in AMOREM’s service area, with the remaining locations in Lenoir, Valdese, and Boone.

“We were able to repair the boiler, but it was evident it needed to be replaced,” said Kerri L. McFalls, AMOREM’s senior director of marketing and development. “This is a significant unexpected cost for our organization. Around 6,000 meals are prepared annually in that commercial kitchen, so it was evident we needed to find a resolution quickly.”

The cost to purchase and replace the dysfunctional equipment was $35,000, with McFalls noting that the Broyhill Family Foundation provided the rapid response that AMOREM needed.

“The foundation generously approved AMOREM’s funding request to cover the entire cost of the equipment and replacement of the commercial hot water heater at the Forlines Patient Care Unit in Hudson,” McFalls said. “The quick turnaround time from when the request was submitted to when the funds were received made it possible for us to immediately order the new equipment.”

The new equipment will be installed before the end of August.
