FOR THE PAPERRonnie Luther Fisher, 86, of Morganton, North Carolina, passed away Thursday, July 30, 2026.
Born in Burke County, North Carolina, on Jan. 10, 1940, he was the son of the late Roy Stillwell and Margie Lou Fisher Stillwell.
Ronnie was a member of First United Methodist Church in Morganton, where he served as a greeter and was active in the youth ministry.
He was a graduate of Glen Alpine High School and played football, basketball, and baseball. He was inducted into the Glen Alpine Hall of Fame. Ronnie then went on to graduate from Western Carolina University.
He was a veteran of the N.C. National Guard and taught driver’s education for 13 years. Ronnie worked for Breeden Poultry and then worked for 17 years at Drexel Heritage.
He is survived by his sons, Chip Fisher (Heidi) and Steve Fisher (Tisha); grandchildren, Kendall Fisher, Cameron Fisher (Raelee), and Patch Fisher; and a great-granddaughter, Sloane Monroe Fisher.
In addition to his parents, Ronnie was preceded in death by his wife, Marinetta Harris Fisher; and a half-brother, Dwight Stillwell.
A celebration of Ronnie’s life will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Aug. 13, 2026, at El Bethel Baptist Church with The Rev. Justin Cunningham, Dr. Thomas A. Bland, Jr., and Pastor Cory Galli officiating. The family will greet friends following the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Shriners, Carolina Caring, or First United Methodist Church in Morganton.
Sossoman Funeral Home and Crematory Center is assisting the family with the arrangements.
