Hundreds of Burke County homeowners could get help repairing storm-damaged homes through a new $6 million regional program led by the Western Piedmont Council of Governments.
Funded by the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality, the Home Repair Readiness Program will pay for critical repairs to homes damaged by Hurricane Helene in Burke and other Western North Carolina counties.
Eligible Burke homeowners may receive up to $25,000 for repairs such as roofing, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, moisture or septic work, along with smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
Applicants must own and live in the home, meet income guidelines and show the repairs are not covered by insurance or other disaster aid. Priority goes to households already on the Weatherization Assistance Program waiting list and to low- to moderate-income families.
Applications and details are available at WNCready.org, or Burke County residents can contact WPCOG for help.
