Bluegrass with a Scandinavian twist is coming to Morganton when Hayde Bluegrass Orchestra takes the stage at the CoMMA Performing Arts Center at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5.
The seven-piece acoustic ensemble from Oslo, Norway, blends traditional bluegrass with Nordic folk influences, creating a sound the group describes as “Nordicana.”
The band’s lineup includes fiddle, dobro, banjo, mandolin, guitar, and accordion, along with four-part vocal harmonies. Its repertoire ranges from original songs and bluegrass standards to familiar covers.
Leading the group is vocalist Rebekka Nilsson, who received the International Bluegrass Music Association’s 2022 Momentum Award for Vocalist of the Year.
Hayde Bluegrass Orchestra has built an audience in both Norway and the United States by pairing the instrumentation and structure of American bluegrass with melodies and harmonies drawn from Scandinavian folk traditions.
The Nov. 5 performance gives local audiences a chance to hear that combination live, with the group moving between traditional roots music, original material, and Nordic-influenced arrangements.
Adult tickets range from $18 to $48, plus sales tax. Youth tickets are $13, plus sales tax.
Tickets are available at commaonline.org, by calling the CoMMA box office at 828-433-7469, or in person at 401 S. College St., Morganton.
