The local Iron Sharpens Iron 13U boys travel basketball team recently won the national warmup ring tournament in Greensboro, then reached the semifinals of the 28-team NTBA national tournament in Myrtle Beach, S.C., finishing with a 28-4 overall record for its season. The team was coached by Lisa Butler, who was assisted by her son, Austin Butler.
“After quite a few years off from coaching travel ball, a very special group of boys stepped into my life, and I found myself back on the sidelines for a lot of long Saturdays,” Lisa Butler said. “Those young boys became young men in just a short time right in front of my eyes. I couldn’t be more proud of each and every one of them with their hard work and dedication. Special thanks to my son for the surprise coaching appearance and help shaping these young boys into young men.”
