East Burke football knocks off Patton
The East Burke varsity football team earned a 38-0 road win over Patton in both teams' Western Piedmont 3A/4A Conference opener on Sept. 18, while other Week 5 games saw Freedom win by a 14-7 final at A.C. Reynolds and R-S Central defeat Draughn by a 42-0 score in Valdese.

East Burke hosted unbeaten Hibriten late Friday, while Patton traveled to Draughn for homecoming and Freedom enjoyed a bye before visiting Watauga to open Northwestern 6A/7A Conference play on Oct. 2.Â

The East Burke varsity football team takes the field prior to a road game against Patton on Sept. 18. The Cavaliers blanked the Panthers, 38-0, in the Western Piedmont 3A/4A Conference opener for both squads to improve to 3-2 overall and 1-0 in league play, while Patton fell to 0-5 and 0-1.

Other offensive standouts for the Cavaliers included Cayson Mooneyham (four catches, 43 yards, three TDs), RJ Williams (two catches, 37 yards, TD), and Brayden Sigmon (seven carries, 41 yards).
