Brackets for the North Carolina High School Athletic Association girls dual-team tennis state playoffs were released on Friday, with all five schools in Burke County making the field in their respective classifications.
Two teams — NCSSM-Morganton at the 1A level and Draughn at the 3A level — will receive opening-round byes before hosting second-round matches.
Two squads — Patton at the 3A level and East Burke at the 4A level — will host first-round contests.
And the remaining team, Freedom, will hit the road in the opening round of the 6A playoffs.
Since it features fewer teams than the other brackets, the 1A tournament will start on Oct. 14. Subsequent rounds will be held on Oct. 19 (second round), Oct. 21 (semifinals), and Oct. 30 (state championship at Burlington Tennis Center).
The 3A, 4A, and 6A tournaments all begin on Oct. 12, with subsequent rounds taking place on Oct. 14 (second round), Oct. 19 (third round), Oct. 21 (fourth round), Oct. 27 (semifinals), and Oct. 30-31 (state championships at Burlington Tennis Center).
