An enormous amount of water careened down from the numerous high-country tributaries of the Catawba and Linville rivers and Paddy’s Creek, and into Lake James, the westernmost of the 11 reservoirs in Duke’s Catawba-Wateree system.

Damage to the turbines at Bridgewater Hydro Station will force Duke Energy to keep Lake James at or above full pond this winter. As a result, the lake is susceptible to rapidly rising waters if a significant rain event occurs.
