School of Science and Math a bustling place these days

The hustle and bustle of campus life is at a fever pitch as we approach the mid-point of the Spring Semester.

Our students are deeply invested in their scholastic endeavors alongside academic competitions, extracurriculars, and athletics.

It’s a full-time job trying to keep up with all their activities and the latest, a presentation of “Into the Woods” from our Fire and Flair Players, which recently welcomed audiences in The Barn.

Another recent highlight (and a personal favorite of mine) is our Math Department’s annual celebration of Pi Week.

Our faculty designed and delivered five days of engaging math-centered programming that allowed students and employees to have fun, celebrate community, and engage in some learning along the way.

I was also excited to visit our SMathHacks Hackathon as hundreds of NCSSM students in Morganton, Durham, and Online engaged in our Computer Science Department’s major annual program.

I’m grateful to Hudson River Trading, Cisco, and all our other sponsors who catalyzed this immersive experience for our students.

We have lots to come over the final two months of the academic year including a once-in-a-generation opportunity to host the UNC System and Board of Governors on our campus and throughout our local community.

The spring reawakening of campus is in full swing and I hope you have the opportunity to engage with us over the coming months.

I remain deeply proud of our community and immensely grateful to you and our many supporters throughout the region and beyond.
