Lloyd "Dean" Costner passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at the age of 79.
He was born on Nov. 2, 1946, in Valdese to the late Kathleen McDaniel Costner and Lloyd George Costner of Glen Alpine.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy J. Costner, and his son, Jimmy Dean Costner.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jeraldine Hudson Costner; children, Danny Lloyd Costner (Renee), JD Street (Britt), Angela Costner Lane (Scott), and Misty Carroll (David); sisters, Deloris Costner and Linda Hepler (Franklin); eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
Dean was a proud veteran of the United States Army, honorably serving his country during the Vietnam War. Through his dedication and commitment, he retired from the military with the distinguished rank of Master Sergeant. Dean was a faithful member of Central Baptist Church in Morganton. Above all, he was a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather who treasured his family and the memories they shared together.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain on Friday, June 26, 2026, at 10 a.m., with Pastor Thom Hartman officiating.
