Valdese was "on track" to have year-round swimming restarted by early October 2025. Regrettably, if inexcusably and unaccountably, the town staff's project management capabilities resulted in a delay of over 4 months for the concrete footer. Not only has the project contracted by the staff in March, stretched out to eleven months, but the previous council had to call a special meeting in November to bail out its management by authorizing an additional $225,000. Already at over $319,000, the footer is not only running four months late, but also nearly four times the cost contracted by the staff. That cost overrun, equivalent to 10% of an entire year of property tax revenue, does not bode well for the management of the public safety building, which citizens may learn in March may cost in the double-digit millions.
