FOR THE PAPERAge: 63
Education: CVCC — One year, Business Administration
Current employer and job title: Mayor of Long View; community leader; small business owner. Listening to concerns, amplifying voices, and creating solutions that improve quality of life here in town. A true leader is approachable, accountable and committed to working for the good of all, not just a few. I am currently on the Executive Committee, Policy Board and on the Forum for the Western Piedmont Council of Governments. I am also Chair for the Valdese Economic Development Corporation (VEDIC). I have a CNC Router and run a small woodworking business from home (Door hangers, monograms, wood letters, and engraving)
How long have you lived in the town/district/area you want to serve? I have lived here going on 41 years. My husband has lived here all his life.
Do you own your home? We own our home.
How long have you lived at your current address? I have lived at this address for 40+ years
Why are you seeking election? Serving as Long View’s first female mayor has been an honor. I ran to bring energy, inclusiveness, and accountability to local government, and I want to continue the progress we’ve made. Top accomplishments: expanded senior services, strengthened regional economic partnerships, and improved community engagement and transparency. The town secured $500,000 in state infrastructure funding with the help of Senator Dean Proctor. We are also seeking a Parks and Recreation grant to upgrade the Long View Recreation Center. I bring proven leadership, a record of results, and a deep love for Long View. I’ve delivered for our community and will continue to put people first.
If elected, what will be the primary focus of your first six months in office? If re-elected, my first six months will focus on strengthening community trust and building momentum on key priorities. I will concentrate on:
1. Ensuring strong public safety and community policing partnerships.
2. Continuing to expand programs and services for youth, seniors and veterans.
3. Driving economic development through support for small businesses and revitalization efforts.
If elected, what is the legacy you hope to achieve during your tenure in office? I hope my legacy will be one of unity, progress, and opportunity. I want to be remembered as the mayor who left the town stronger, more vibrant, and more connected than when I first took office — a place where families feel safe, businesses thrive, and people are proud to call home.
What are the three most pressing issues facing your community and how do you plan to address them? Economic development and job growth, support for seniors and families, responsible growth in housing and infrastructure.
1. Economic Growth & Development — Encourage small business investment, pursue grants, and partner with regional organizations to attract new industries while revitalizing local business districts.
2. Public Safety & Community Well-Being — Support our police and fire departments with the resources they need while building community engagement programs to foster trust, safety, and youth mentorship.
3. Infrastructure & Quality of Life — Invest in road repairs, parks, and technology upgrades, while expanding programs for seniors, youth and veterans to ensure every resident benefits from town services.
Any additional comments?
Proud wife of Kyle (married 40+ years) and mother of Alex and Mark.
Biggest challenge: Managing growth while keeping our small-town character and ensuring services meet residents’ needs.
Final message: It has been the honor of my life to serve as mayor. I’m running for a third term to keep building a strong, welcoming Long View for every resident.
