Registration still open for library's Summer Reading Program

Registration for Color Our World, our Summer Reading Program, is still open. Check out our website and Facebook for flyers and calendars to find out more about all the programs we have coming up this summer.

If you are looking for something to do this morning, the Morganton Public Library is welcoming Christa Strauss as we “Color Our World with Music” at 10:30 a.m.

Children 5 years of age and younger are invited to join us for this fun, musical morning for little ones.

We will not have storytimes the week of June 30 through July 4, but there will still be fun programs at our libraries during this holiday week.

The Morganton Public Library is delighted to have Jon Sundell (storyteller, folk singer, and balloon twister) Monday, June 30, at 3 p.m. He will delight families with a multicultural program of stories, songs, a slideshow, craft display and balloon twisting after the show. This program is open to all ages and does not require pre-registration.

The Valdese Public Library will get their glam on with a “Diamond Art Day” on Tuesday, July 1, at 5:30 p.m. This program is open to children in grades K-5 and does not require pre-registration.

DIGITAL LITERACY FOR SENIORS

The Western Piedmont Council of Governments Planning and Transportation Department is offering monthly Digital Literacy for Seniors classes at the Morganton library.

Join us Wednesday, July 9, at 2 p.m. for Protecting Your Personal Information Online for Seniors. We’ll cover strategies for staying safe in cyberspace including safe browsing, recognizing online scams, and knowing when it’s OK — or not — to share your personal information online. No pre-registration is required, and the class is free of charge.

ADULT PROGRAMMING

We will be taking a break from programming this week, but books can still be logged for the summer reading program.

YOUNG ADULT PROGRAMMING

There will be no Young Adult Services (YAS) programming this week. Book and activity tracking is still available at bcpls.readsquared.com.

Teens who are missing event codes are encouraged to reach out to Lizzie at lizzie.whisnant@burkenc.org to get their accounts caught up so they can be sure to have as many entries in to win prizes as possible.

LIBRARIES CLOSED

All locations of the Burke County Public Library will be closed on Friday, July 4, for Independence Day.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Volunteers are needed at the Morganton Public Library to assist with landscape maintenance. We need some folks to help us keep our landscaped areas free of weeds and debris. If you would like to help, call Library Director Jim Wilson at 828-764-9276 or email at jwilson@bcpls.org.

eBooks @ your library

Nearly 6,000 Burke County Public Library users have registered to use the library’s digital collection available through the e-iNC consortium and NC Kids Digital Library.

This digital collection includes eBooks, audiobooks, and streaming video available to Burke County Public Library cardholders. Apps are available for download for a variety of devices including Kindle, iPhone, and Android phones.
