Morris Motors Inc., at the intersection of Lenoir and East Union streets in Morganton, served as the local franchise dealership for Dodge and Plymouth sales and service. This image depicts the 1948 introduction of the new 1949 Dodge, featured prominently on the display floor of the showroom. The 1949 Dodge marked a major milestone as Chrysler Corporation’s first entirely redesigned, true post-World War II vehicle line. Morris Motors, Inc. was founded by McDowell County native Robert Jack “R. J.” Morris (1904-1989), who served as its president. Joseph Fleming Snipes (1898-1992) was vice president, and David Holman Sigmon (1909-1987) served as treasurer. Three unidentified ladies are pictured standing alongside the automobile inside the dealership. The local business operated until about 1957. The History Museum of Burke County submitted this image to Picture Burke, a digital photograph preservation project of the NC Room of the Burke County Public Library.
