A farewell celebration for Jon Mercer, chief operating officer at UNC Health Blue Ridge, will be held Wednesday, June 18, from 4-6 p.m. at UNC Health Blue Ridge Valdese Campus in the McGalliard Falls Conference Room.
Mercer, a dedicated member of the Blue Ridge family for over 25 years, began his career with the organization in Cardiac Rehab and has since become a trusted leader and advocate across the health system.
Throughout his tenure, he has played a pivotal role in advancing patient care, mentoring staff, and strengthening the hospital’s connection with the community.
“Jon has been an integral part of our organization for more than two decades,” said Gary Paxson, president and CEO of UNC Health Blue Ridge. “His unwavering commitment to excellence and compassion for both our patients and team members have left an indelible mark on Blue Ridge. While we are saddened to see him go, we are incredibly proud of all he has accomplished and grateful for his many contributions.”
Mercer has accepted a new leadership opportunity with Novant Health System, where he will serve as president of Clemmons Medical Center in Clemmons, N.C.
“We wish Jon the very best as he embarks on this exciting next chapter of his career,” added Paxson. “His impact will be felt here for years to come.”
At this time, UNC Health Blue Ridge will not be appointing an interim COO as the organization undertakes a thoughtful assessment of its operational leadership structure.
