Scenes from Black History Festival 2025
The community turned out for the 42nd annual Black History Festival on Saturday, Feb. 22. The event is hosted by the Burke County Branch NAACP.
Events kicked off at 10 a.m. and included musical performances and great food Dozens of community organizations and businesses were also on hand at the festival, which took place at Collett Street Recreation Center in Morganton.
The theme was “Celebrating 90 Years; Moving Forward with Equity, Justice & Equality.” After 90 years, the work of the Burke County Branch NAACP is far from over.
The featured guest for this historic event is the “One Voice Traveling and Acting Troupe” from Hillside High School drama department out of Durham. This group has performed across the states and worldwide. The group has been working on an original production featuring a piece of our local history.
The Burke County Arts Council, the N.C. Arts Council, the City of Morganton, and the Morganton Parks and Recreation have partnered with the Burke branch in this endeavor for years.
