FOR THE PAPERDown home roots with a modern edge. That’s Sidecar Honey, the band that will take over the TGIF Summer Concert Series stage on Friday, May 29.
Sidecar Honey blends Americana, rock, soul, and indie influences with Southern roots and a modern sound.
Lead vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter Dave Dribbon started the band in 2015. Kimberly Tzakos also provides lead vocals, bringing tone, range, and soul to the group’s sound.
The band’s songs feature gritty vocals, rich harmonies, and a dynamic backbeat that can move into heavier territory. Bassist Tyler Mack and drummer Will Miller also provide backing vocals and bring rock, Cajun, and Americana rhythms to the music.
Josh Bertram plays lead guitar, adding solos influenced by Trey Anastasio and riffs in the style of Mike Campbell. Zach Knox adds keys, improvisation, and additional vocals, including backing and lead vocals.
The band’s songwriting has a nostalgic feel, while its sound carries an indie edge. Sidecar Honey’s music has been described as what might happen if Blind Melon, Bonnie Raitt, and Van Morrison made an album together.
The result is Americana with pop hooks and rock drive — a sound meant to feel both fresh and familiar.
Don’t miss this band as it wraps up the first month of free concerts every Friday on the amphitheater stage at the Historic Burke County Courthouse Square, 102 E. Union St., Morganton.
Vendors (beer, wine, food, and more) open at 6 p.m. Music is 7-10 p.m. Scheduled food vendors include Appalachian Chics, Philly Flava, Arepitas, Sunset Slush, and Russell Boys Concessions.
