Burke County residents will gather April 18 at Patton High School to raise money and awareness in the fight against cancer during the annual Relay For Life event.
Relay For Life of Burke County is scheduled for Saturday, April 18, at the Patton High School football stadium. Opening ceremonies begin at 4:30 p.m., followed by the cancer survivors lap at 5 p.m.
The community event, organized through the American Cancer Society, brings together teams, survivors, caregivers and supporters to honor those affected by cancer while raising funds for research, treatment and patient support.
Relay For Life events traditionally feature teams walking the track throughout the evening to symbolize the ongoing fight against cancer. Participants also hold ceremonies to recognize cancer survivors and remember those lost to the disease.
The Burke County event will continue through the evening, with the closing ceremony scheduled for 10:30 p.m.
Organizers encourage community members to attend, form teams or support participants as the event highlights the themes “Walk, Hope, Survive.”
Relay For Life has been one of the American Cancer Society’s signature fundraising efforts for decades, bringing communities together across the country to support cancer research and patient services.
