Iron Light Iron Pour returns June 6 to WNC Sculpture Center

The WNC Sculpture Center will host its sixth annual Iron Light Iron Pour on Saturday, June 6, offering the public a close-up look at artists working with 3,000-degree molten iron.

The free, family-friendly event begins at 6 p.m. at the sculpture center, 4612 Patterson School Drive in Lenoir.

The annual event features the dramatic process of pouring molten iron and turning raw material into art. It has become one of the sculpture center’s signature events, drawing artists, families, and visitors interested in the connection between art, craft, and industry.

This year’s event will include a live iron pour by professional artists and metalworkers, blacksmithing demonstrations, and raku ceramics firing. Food trucks and live music will also be part of the evening.

Food vendors will include Bubba and Mert’s Burgers and Craving Cave, which serves Asian cuisine. Music will be provided by The Daniel Whitener Project, a jazz trio, and Pigeon River Messengers, an Appalachian folk group.

“This event celebrates both the region’s rich artistic tradition and the power of community,” said Joseph Bigley, executive director of the WNC Sculpture Center. “Iron Light brings people together to witness a centuries-old craft in a modern, accessible way.”
